Bike the Night and Goblin: Oedipus

This weekend was a bit busier than usual. On Friday I went to HUB Cycling’s yearly Bike the Night event, and rode around False Creek with a bunch of other people. This time I tried to buy some lights to decorate my bike, but I couldn’t find anything downtown. I ended up borrowing a pair of clip-on lights for my tires. Hey, it’s better than nothing.

Then on Saturday I hopped on my bike again to go to see Goblin: Oedipus at Bard on the Beach. It’s a version of the ancient Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex, but performed by three goblins who’ve hijacked one of the stages. They did interrupt the play when it was getting boring, argue about who’s the best actor, and interacted with the audience and stage crew. It was silly and fun, and probably the only time in Bard history that the audience chanted “Motherfucker! Motherfucker!” as one of the characters left the stage in shame.

It ended with a dance party, too!

Tragically, the giant erect dong was not a major part of the show. It disappeared after the public orgy was nixed.

But it was passed around during the closing dance party.
