Monday
A friend and I hung out online in the evening. We’ve been doing this regularly for the last few years—this is how I got into Baldur’s Gate 3. Our current game is Luma Island, which is a fun, low-pressure hang out game. It’s a bit of a knock-off of Fantasy Life, but the developers put a tonne of work and heart into it. It’s much better than I’d expected.
Tuesday
This is my regular RPG night. We’ve been playing Stonetop, a PbtA1 fantasy RPG. Some adventures we’ve had include venturing into the forest to rescue a child from the Fae; travelling to the Hill Folk to fetch a healer for the Stonetop’s horse; and dealing with bandits who were starting up a protection racket. It’s been a lot of fun. At some point I’ll have to work out my thoughts and jot ‘em down.
Alas, we didn’t play this week. Instead we hung out on Discord for a bit, and then I finished a book.
Wednesday
T— and I went to The Big Question—a comedy show at Little Mountain Gallery. We were the audience—everyone else there was either a performer, or with the performers. Which is a pity for the rest of the world, because it was great.
Ian Boothby and Eric Fell hosted. (I heard about the show via Eric Fell’s Discord server.2) The special guests were all local comics: Melanie Rose, Sophia Johnson (who I saw at an Extra Credits show earlier in the year), and Katie-Ellen Humphries.
Despite the small audience, they put on an amazing show.
Thursday
My cousin E— was in town. We met for dinner at Moose’s Down Under and caught up on things. It was good seeing her.
Afterwards, I messaged a friend who moved to Australia to ask if my dinner, a “chicken schnitty,” was a thing. He replied yes, and brought up “parmies” in his response. The resto had a whole menu of special “chicken parmies” on offer. I might have to try one next time.
Friday
My friend G— threw a party and invited a tonne of people. We played some Rhymes with Duck and Code Names, and otherwise hung out and talked and ate. It was a wonderful time.
Saturday
Emergency shoe shopping. I hopped on my bike and rode to Kingsgate Mall. I ended riding about 15 klicks, including the fancy new bike lanes on the Granville St Bridge.
Sunday (today)
Another friend—one I haven’t seen in years—is in hospital for a kidney transplant. The surgery was a success, and he’s recuperating. It’s time for me to disappear and see how he’s doing.
