Lana Del Rey - Mariners Apartment Complex

I first heard of Lana Del Rey when “Video Games” came out in 2011. Pop music at the time was loud and meant for the clubs; it was the age of Gaga. Here was this near-dirge about some dude who plays video games, with strings, piano, timpani and harp. It was new and different. I could mentally appreciate it, but I couldn’t connect with it.

In 2018, Del Rey released Norman Fucking Rockwell! The lead single was “Mariners Apartment Complex.” I fell in love with it from the first chords.
