New Orleans Follow-up

My actual post for the trip was already too long, so here’s a quick follow-up.
First: I shared a link in the main post, but you can see my entire tweet thread here. It’s mostly from New Orleans. It’s kinda funny how I started posting little thoughts to the internet as soon as I started the solo part of my trip. 😆
Second: I posted some YouTube videos. Here’s a random jazz band busking in the rain on Frenchmen St:
And here are a few minutes on the bus on Magazine St. I took a bus tour the next day, and the guide told me Magazine St was a “hidden gem”. I don’t know about that, but it was fine. It says something about me that I spent my first full day in New Orleans avoiding the French Quarter and getting off the tourist track.
One final thought that really belongs in the other post: I knew that Hurricane Katrina was a disaster, but I didn’t appreciate it until I visited. The ground floor at the Presbytère is devoted to it. I talked to some folk, and it was years before they could return home. There are markers around showing how high the water got in various neighbourhoods, and it was weeks before the water was pumped away. It’s hard to imagine how catastrophic it was.
Yarr!
PS: You can get a 72 hour transit pass for eight bucks, including the bus to the airport. I strongly recommend doing so if you’re down there.
